An animal rescue is an independent group or private organization that works with Humane Societies in a collaborative effort to rehome as many homeless animals as possible. Animal Rescues are NOT directly affiliated with Humane Societies or SPCA's but often assist those shelters by taking in animals that the shelter cannot place. North Star Rescue is a Small Animal Rescue based in Santa Rosa, California. They rescue small animals from shelters all over the Bay Area and help find them new and loving homes. The Animal Care and Adoption Network is a non-profit organization that provides general care information about rats, rabbits and other animals and is a source for assisting with rehoming rats, rabbits and other animals.

 

One at a Time Rescue is based in San Francisco, CA and is dedicated to helping "special needs" animals. The take them in to foster homes where the healing process begins. They socialize the animals and treat them medically, if necessary.
